the Homo Sapiens Agenda, with better dialogue, characters and relationships than The Upside of Unrequited, and it didn't hurt that I just related to Leah so much more. If you've had enough of the depressing gloomy world we live in and want to read something uplifting, unapologetically nerdy, with just the right amount of romance and Harry Potter references, then I highly recommend Leah on the Offbeat. Oh, how I wish I could go back in time and give my awkward, chubby teen self this book. She's hilarious and badass and sarcastic and moody and totally potty-mouthed. I don't actually see how it's possible not to. Is it that hard to believe I might actually like my body? I swear, people can’t wrap their minds around the concept of a fat girl who doesn’t diet.

Steven Erikson entered the pantheon of great fantasy writers with his debut Gardens of the Moon. Caught in the middle of it all are the First Sons of Darkness, Anomander, Andarist, and Silchas Ruin of the Purake Hold. The impending clash sends fissures throughout the realm, and as the rumors of civil war burn through the masses, an ancient power emerges from the long dead seas. The commoners' great hero, Vatha Urusander, is being promoted by his followers to take Mother Dark's hand in marriage, but her Consort, Lord Draconus, stands in the way of such ambitions. But this ancient land was once home to many a power. It's a conflicted time in Kurald Galain, the realm of Darkness, where Mother Dark reigns. Now is the time to tell the story of an ancient realm, a tragic tale that sets the stage for all the tales yet to come and all those already told. The Husband’s Secret is set in Sydney, where Cecilia – the woman who finds the envelope – is an (otherwise) happily married mother-of-three. My brain was whirring, I was dying of curiosity, convinced this book was a winner… but then, in chapters two and three, we almost inexplicably started bouncing around in the lives (and, later, timelines) of a bunch of other characters. I think it goes without saying that, given that this is how the story begins, the opening chapter is an absolute cracker. But her husband is still very much alive, and he won’t tell her what’s inside. Jumping right in, The Husband’s Secret has one HECK of a premise! A woman finds an envelope, written in her husband’s hand, and it says (*ominous music*): “For my wife, only to be opened in the event of my death”. Agent: Kevan Lyon, Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.
